Connected business solutions

Harnessing the power of the Web to produce connected business solutions - Web-based business applications

Today, some of the most interesting business applications are making use of the Web to provide the 'glue', enabling business solutions to be connected together in ways that were not possible a few years ago. One of the key technologies that is enabling this is called the Web Service.

A web service can be thought of as a web site without a user interface, and instead of a human using it as they would a web site, another program somewhere else on the Internet can use it. This means that a new type of application can be built and makes use of programs that reside on other machines elsewhere on the Internet. Microsoft's .NET architecture and technology set is built using web services.

Web-i from Next Curve is an example of Web services in action. We have used it on client Web sites to automatically update site content without any human intervention, for example.
